Mother Eunice Udo Eni

A Tribute to My Mother

A Mother Loved, A Mother Missed

This week leads up to what would have been your 77th birthday, Mom, and you're so much on my mind.

Been thinking of the many ways to describe your life as a Sensible Woman.

Beautiful...Your nickname in high school was "Shape."

Modest...In your dressing & make-up. I Peter 3:3-4 (NKJV) "... Do not let your adornment be merely outward, rather let it be the hidden person of the heart...which is precious in the sight of God."

Firecracker...Folks wanted you on their side in life's battles.  You were geared for tackling adversity.

Overcomer…You juggled work-life balance, finishing your Bachelor's & Master's degrees from Hofstra U, New York, in record time as a Single Mom to three children.  You took on life's disappointments and hardships with resilience.

Industrious…You worked hard and were well accomplished in your career.  A Woman Pioneer in the field of Banking & Finance.  You also maintained beautiful homes full of lovely, fragrant flowers and with fruit-tree filled gardens.  Prov. 31:27 "…She did not eat the bread of idleness."

Resourceful…Frugal and disciplined, you quickly built independent wealth and retired by the time you turned 44 yrs. Prov. 31:16 "…She considers a field and buys it. From her profits, she plants a vineyard."

Compassionate…You had a giving heart. You gave to many from your wealth.  You had a concern and passion for women and children's issues.  You had a vision for women to see themselves strong in self-confidence and "Christ-esteem."

Imperfect, and yet with Grace...You had many life struggles and experiences through which the enemy wanted to try to scar and destroy you.  Sometimes you reacted relentlessly from that pain, and were often misunderstood; but eventually instead you chose more often to try to act rather than react from that pain by moving closer to The Lord, by receiving and extending His Grace to yourself and many others.  Hebrews 12:1 "…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us."

Devoted and Prayerful…You lived out your days, more so in your latter days, devoted to your children and grandchildren.  You had a burden for the salvation and well-being of your own.

I burst into tears as I'm driving; I cry, I laugh, I still wish we had more time.  I reflect on your life and thank God over and over for you and the opportunity to have been your daughter.

Love Always,

Your Daughter
